[Accra, Ghana-June 6, 2018] On June 5, 2018, the organizers of Ghana Tech Summit hosted an Influencer Roundtable Meeting in partnership with Ghana’s Ministry of Communications & the Diaspora Affairs Office with 150+ of the country’s top government officials, private sector executives, media influencers and local stakeholders. The gathering served to highlight Africa’s forward thinking influencers, policy makers and executives supporting business, tech and innovation in the hopes of activating their networks for the missions of the inaugural launch of Ghana Tech Summit.
Ghana Tech Summit is a 3 day international program to be hosted on July 18-20, 2018 at Accra International Conference Center featuring 100 global speakers and 1000 attendees. The central theme of the global summit is to “catalyze entrepreneurial and business ecosystems in emerging markets”. The multi year event is a 12- year initiative of the Global Startup Ecosystem (GSE) which brings together hundreds of entrepreneurs, investors, digital marketers and creatives together in to targeted cities around the world to accelerate tech, innovation and economic development within the host country. GSE hosts about 20 global programs a year with top notable summits such as Space Tech Summit in Silicon Valley, Blockchain Tech Summit in New York, and Haiti Tech Summit in Royal Decameron, Haiti.
Speakers for the June 5th Influencer Roundtable Meeting included the Honourable Deputy Minister of Communications, Vincent Sowah Odotei, Director of the Diaspora Affairs Office at the Office of the Presidency, Akwasi Awua Ababio, founder of Ghana Tech Summit- Einstein Kofi Ntim, Organizer of the LSE Africa Summit – Bradley Poku-Amankwah, and the Co-Founder & Chair Future of Ghana – Arnold Sarfo-Kantanka. Special guests included Kenneth Ashigbey – CEO Ghana Telecom Chamber, Femke Dekker – COO of Farmerline, Bernard Acquah – CIO at Vodafone Ghana, Will Senyo – Co-Founder & CEO of Impact Hub Accra, Dev Varyani – Chairman of Visa Group and representatives of IBM, Google, USAID West Africa, Jumia Group, Microsoft, and more.
In addition to highlighting key stakeholders, the June 5th gathering also served to give history and context to the previous efforts of the Global Startup Ecosystem in other countries and why the organization is heading to Ghana. In 2017, the first black republic- Haiti hosted featured the President of Haiti-His Excellency Jovenel Moise, Venture Capitalist investor of Airbnb and Facebook Ben Horowitz, and 100 global speakers from Google, Facebook, Uber, Airbnb, Facebook, Paypal, Mastercard, Github, Forbes, Inc Magazine, Fast Company, Black Enterprise, and 40+ media outlets. This event shocked the Caribbean ecosystem and yielded 83 million social media impressions in 2 days along with press coverage in 87 global media outlets. Post the summit Airbnb signed a 5 year contract with the Ministry of Tourism, Facebook launched the largest developer network in Haiti and Google Launchpad launched a program in the country capital for the first time. The summit in Haiti returns with headline speaker Jack Dorsey (Founder of Twitter).
